This 120-minute recorded webcast provides a history of social work ethics with implications for modern-day practice. As history shows and we will review, social work's concern with ethics spans four major, sometimes overlapping, periods: 1) the morality period, 2) the values period, 3) the ethical theory and decision-making period, and 4) the ethical standards and risk management period. We study how understanding our history allows us to best apply ethical standards today.
How to manage ethical issues that arise is another area of focus to prevent burnout. Protecting the client and yourself is key while doing so within the scope of our ethical standards. The six core social work values will be comprehensively reviewed around the context of preventing and managing common ethical issues such as the following:
- Identifying underlying functions of your child's problem behavior;
- Identifying strategies that may help prevent some common problem behavior; and
- Answering your questions regarding general behavior concerns.
